Since our inception in 2017, we have been platforming and championing artists and dance of the African Caribbean diaspora in Scotland.

This Archive is a living Archive - an ongoing project to document the incredible people and projects who we have worked with since we started.

“Artists are the storytellers of our communities”

Our journey so far….

Through witnessing and experiencing racial inequality within our own lives and professional careers, we came together as friends and colleagues to remedy this through democratising the art sector in Scotland and beyond. We came together as an artist collective to create a children’s summer school, workshop programme, a curated evening of Scratch performances and a symposium in 2017.

This initial programme was celebratory. We created educational contexts to understand the history, heritage and contemporary African Caribbean cultures through dance. We wanted to nurture the amazing artists creating work here in Scotland, whilst addressing the multi-faceted and oppressive barriers put upon Black and/+ POC artists.

Over the last 5 years, we have been delivering workshops for children, young people and adults; supporting artists who identify as Black and/+POC with African and Caribbean diasporic heritage; developing performances; curating events and facilitating conversations around representation within the sector in Scotland.

Following the success of our project-by-project work, and in response to continue to support those we work with, in April 2019 Project X became a Community Interest Company.
